Help end world hunger

-* On Traveling

Ran across a few quotations about traveling in Forbes that I really really like.

Too lazy to type them up again, so here goes:

So, in preparation for tomorrow’s Sheng Meng (a separate one from the two I had gone to last weekend), I decided that I’ll need my white light-weight jacket to battle of the UV-rays from the sun that I’ll have to spend a lot of time under tomorrow. Unfortunately, I had forgotten to launder it since last week’s sweaty Sheng Meng episode, so I thought I’d quickly throw it into the washer at my brother’s condo where I’ll be spending the night.

Even more unfortunately, my brother just bought some blue t-shirts and so I was being nice and did the laundry for him as well. Yah, you can probably guess what happened next… I now have a new light blue jacket, and also a new light blue towel (which used to be an uglier shade of cream.)

I spent earth hour outside having dinner with my family (MK… yum…) So, technically, we did turn off the lights at home during the time… does that count?

P1100268My brother & I continued to experiment with his juice extractor again today, and I think we found a very good recipe that we both like!

So, for about a liter of this mix, here’s the recipe:

6 carrots
4-6 apples
2-3 celeries
1-2 limes

So, I just found out today (via pittaya.com) that right now I (as a DTAC customer) can now twit through SMS!

But of course, at 1B/twit, I don’t think I’ll be able to afford it! Right now my phone bill is already too high as it is! (I’ve been trying to cut down by using skype, but it’s still quite high (not astronomically high as it was at the peak… but still… Oh well, definitely well worth it though!)

It’s still great to have the option of sending SMS though. Maybe the next time I’m stuck in the middle of nowhere w/o EDGE/GPRS connection, I’ll still have something to keep me entertained.

I also hadn’t realized that there are now so many Thais out there on twitter (and in blogosphere in general).

Anyway, I came back home today to see a huge pile of books! Apparently, Mom decided to beat the weekend crowd at the Bangkok International Book Fair 2008 by going on a weekday instead…

… without me!!!!

>.<

Not that I’m expecting to be buying a lot of books this year (Heck, I still haven’t had the chance to finish the books I bought LAST TIME), but I still would love the chance to go browse around. Especially on a day out with my parents! I’ve been going to those almost every time I happen to be in Thailand at the time.

Speaking of books though, in the fashion inspired by Kate, I decided to construct my own 2008’s book list. (like her 2008 and 2007 ones.)

If you’ve noticed, I like to start multiple books simultaneously, and depending on my mood, I’ll read one or the others… sort of like Rory from the Gilmore Girls, I guess. (Although my reading preference is neither as broad or as deep as hers, I’m sure.)

Reading S.’s blog this morning made me realize how I would never quite experience anything quite like the first few days of undergrad again.

Sure, I’ve had a few more “orientations” since then, but the one for my grad school was more like a few weeks of full-day math review classes! (And some of the “review” was more like “brand new” concepts for me.)

The one for work was a lot less stressful, but then again, it was definitely not like the fun/carefree/bonding events like what we had 8 years ago. (Typing that last sentence suddenly made me realize, that in a couple of years, I’d have known all of my closest friends for more than a decade already. Now, if that doesn’t make one feel … old … I don’t know what will.)

On an unrelated note, I had been hearing about my company on the news quite often lately — not so much about the team I’m currently with right now, but almost everything about the team I had spent most of the last year with. Unfortunately, the news and the buzz around everything right now doesn’t quite put us in the very best of light, but I guess that does come with the territory of being the market leader for many of the daily essentials. That’s where all the spotlights are always on.

But anyway, I always had the impressions that this kinda news really shouldn’t be made public for at least another month or so when it’s really effectively in place. But I guess considering the number of people involved who’re required to be made aware of the changes at least this long in advance, there’s really no way to keep it under a lid. Knowing that though, i really wonder how the company’s planning to deal with this kinda thing.
