Help end world hunger

-* My “first” driving accident…

… Okay. *NOT* exactly the *first* *first* accident…

I had mention before, that I’m still always going to be a driving newbie on some level, but I had never had to be in the situation where I had to call my auto insurance to deal with my “accidents.” (It had almost always been with inanimate objects such as the lamp post, the garage wall, the parking lot pillar, etc. Oh. I did run into the back of someone’s car once, but mine was a tiny little car (completely dented) while his was a SUV (not even a scratch!) So, since he was in a hurry to go on somewhere else, we let it drop at that and I had my car fixed muchhhhhh later.)

But today was the first time that SOMEONE ELSE’s car hit mine, that I was absolutely no-fault party in the accident, and also that I had to deal with the whole insurance people by myself (heck-I didn’t even know the name/number of my insurance company before today! But now I have it safely memorized away in my phone.)

Anyway, today, as I was turning into the main street, just about 1km from my home, a taxi rammed right into the back of my car. (Okay… maybe “ramming” might be a tad bit of an exaggeration.) My car wasn’t that badly damaged, but I had to go through the process of calling the insurance and waiting and all that crap anyway. >_<

I ended up having to wait almost an hour for my insurance agent (*note-to-self: switch company when this contract is over*) and it was quite a bit of a let-down to see that the taxi’s agent arrived wayyyy before mine did!

(But at least when mine came, he was all attired in shirt & tie… a big win over the other guy’s shabbily dressed agent.)

I did consider documenting my entire experience through twitter, but it’d have been “still waiting for the insurance guy” every 5 minutes 10-12 times… and that wouldn’t have been such an interesting story to follow anyway. I even contemplated walking back home to sleep until someone would call and wake me up again. *laughs*

I’m happy to say though, that given that this was the first time that I had to deal with accident/insurance company myself, I was much calmer about it all than I thought I would be. I wasn’t even frustrated that I had to wait for that long in the heat of Bangkok’s April sun (even though I happened to be wearing long-sleeved top this morning). I wasn’t even that frustrated about the whole experience of being in an accident. (Of course, it helped that it was in broad daylight, and not far from home at all!)

Maybe that whole dharma trip I took last month did help transform my usually-panicky state of mind. d : (Well, I did plan to come around to blog about that experience in more details… maybe I’ll do that soon.)

-* April Fool’s

I thought about playing some April Fool’s joke today, but I couldn’t come up with something clever and harmless… So I decided to let it go.

Coming up with something to do on April Fool’s is a hard task for me. For one thing, I can never intentionally say untrue things with a straight face. My face just gives everything, every emotion away. Some people said it’s in my eyes. Whenever I have some *intentions* behind my *actions*, my eyes would spark in some odd ways.

In any case though, I’m sure I can come up with some trivial not-true things to say one day out of a whole year. The possibilities is just endless. But I really don’t want to do that kinda of thing, unless I can come up with something absolutely out there. So, I usually end up not doing anything for today at all. But I still do like reading about the jokes and the hoaxes other people pull though, especially the ones by google. Of course, this year google does it again with virgle (virgin + google), gmail custom time, or gday

The one I love most from google so far, as everyone should know by now though, is their 2004’s announcement of gmail on April Fool’s day. I don’t know… I just love the ideas of making people think it’s a hoax when it’s actually real!

All that led me to an idea that just came to me today as I was walking by a row of people rushing to sell the last batch of lotteries today before the prize is announced (*Here, lotto is out twice every month, on the 1st and the 16th (or is it the 15th? I don’t quite remember any more.))

So, the plan would be… every year, I’m going to buy just one lottery for the April 1st batch, and when I *do* win a jackpot (yah right!) I’m going to tell everyone that I win and let them thinking that I’m just playing an April Fool’s joke on them. ;) So, the joke would be everyone thinking that I’m joking when I’m actually not… and I’ll get the pleasure of announcing to the world that I won a million baht without having people to come ask me to borrow money from and all that, you see? d :

On the scale of 1-to-10… I think the chance of me actually *remembering* to do this next year is probably around a 2…
