Help end world hunger

-* Happy V-Day…

I’m not a big believer of celebrating a holiday like this valentine’s day, as… well, I think it doesn’t make that much sense to be spending money for overpriced roses and teddy bears on such an arbitrary (or as some would say, a Hallmark’s) day like this. I mean, sure, it’s nice to have a day to celebrate “love,” but it’s not like people should need to spend 1,000B/rose or a whole week’s worth of meals on gift to say the things that could be said even more meaningful in some other ways. Besides, if there should be a “special” day to celebrate this kinda thing, I’d personally go for a day that actually would have *some* meanings… A birthday, an anniversary, or something a lot less arbitrary… (where all these gifts would not be this overpriced)

So, here I am, sitting in an internet cafe while waiting to have dinner w/ my mom, and in the very short span of time that I used to type the above paragraph, I already saw 3 girls… (literally *girls* still in junior high/high school uniform)… each with a bouquet of roses that, no doubt, costs more than the money that I get per month when I was that age…

Okay, fine. Maybe there’s nothing wrong with it if the givers of those roses could easily afford to pay for that. Heck… it might actually be good in terms of “income distribution” (as one of my aunts would actually put it.)

But yah, it just does make me wonder about what is the value for these younger generations? I don’t want to sound “old” or anything, but is this the way things should really be?

Don’t get me wrong though. I do like flowers… as in to take the photos of!!! d : But since I often get a little sad when they wither away, instead of buying me expensive flowers… I think I’d rather go to a park somewhere and take a whole day off to enjoy the photographic experience… ( :

Having said all that though, I did get a few “valentine’s-esque” gifts this year… as a very-very-tiny little perk (as opposed to the drawbacks of having spent more than 10 hours a day working on average) from being in the current team at work. So, I ended up with a pillow with a few hearts on it, four teddy bears (yah, four), and two rather cute “true love”-themed photo frames.

I joked with my colleagues about not having to spend any money buying gifts for valentine’s this year. d : But then again, I don’t think I would really want to spend the additional shipping fee anyway, so those things are probably not going to become the gifts this year. d :

  1. I agree! I don’t celebrate Valentine’s day…meaning…I DON’T buy PPOP anything but he will have to get me stuff, LOL! Nah…just kidding. I keep telling him -no gift- and definitely no flower!

  2. Hee. Even people who are in a relationship can have boring Val-days…. We spent the whole day at home. O.o

I agree with you on the flowers. I never understood receiving/sending flowers. The first thing I told Angie was never to give me flowers. Not only is it useless, I have to take care of it so it doesn’t die… That’s just like giving me trouble. =P

  3. yeaaaaaa oh man i have some good memories of valentine’s day at RIS. Can we say: extravagance????
